Webinar video!
Few large, well-designed, science-based studies explore the effectiveness of options for repurposing pet waste. This webinar focuses on a small project that looks into the potential of using anaerobic digestion (breaking down organic material in the absence of oxygen) followed by vermicomposting to produce safe and productive fertilizers.
The experiment uses a customized biodigestion unit to process dog manure into liquid, solid and biohumus fertilizer. All three fractions were tested in a certified lab. Results showed nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium contents as well as pathogen and heavy metal levels.
Tested on switchgrass, the fertilizer had a positive effect on growth.
