Sorting is the key to successful recycling in the Town and County of Nantucket, Massachusetts, where the mandatory program was established in of 1996. The Material Recovery Facility (MRF) accepts un-bagged pet waste with other compostables at a single drop-off area for source-separated recyclables and trash.
All residential and commercial property owners or occupants are required to recycle. Nantucket even has a shell recycling program that encourages local restaurants, raw bars, and the community to save and recycle oyster and clam shells in order to support oyster restoration in Nantucket waters.
